We are happy to present you Garash – an exceptional and unique cake that intrigues the senses and makes you want more and more with every bite you take. Although today it is well recognized all over the world, few know that its’ recipe has been created in Bulgaria.
In 1885 in Rousse, Bulgaria, a master confectioner arrived – the Austro-Hungarian Kosta Garash. He initially took over the management of the first Grand Hotel in Bulgaria – “Islah Hane”. In the lounges of the hotel, Prince Alexander Batenberg himself welcomed kings and royal majesties. It is for one of these receptions that Garash created the Garash cake, which was named after him.
Shortly afterwards, the confectioner transferred the tradition of Garash making to one of the most luxurious hotels of that time in the capital Sofia – “Pahah”. Around 1900, Costa Garash moved there to take over the hotel. On the ground floor there was a patisserie, where the citizens could taste a piece of the famous dessert, which became a name for a fine taste.
